CSCSS Press Release
WASHINGTON, D.C, LONDON, UK, March 26th 2014 - - The Centre for Strategic Cyberspace + Security Science (CSCSS), an international cybersecurity think tank, is pleased to announce that David Nordell has joined CSCSS as Vice President for International Cyber Strategy and Policy.
CSCSS is a non-profit organisation, set up to assist and provide global thought leadership to government and industry across the spectrum of cyber threats, with a particular focus on national security, defence policy, and strategies.
David was born and educated in the UK and then moved to Israel, where his career has spanned journalism, consulting, policy analysis and technology entrepreneurship. In the mid-90s, he became the first professional advisor to the Israeli government on Internet and IT infrastructure policy, and was also deeply involved in the development of Israel’s economic relations with the Arab world as part of the Mideast peace process. As the founder and CEO of a financial technology start-up based on Israel and London, he has been developing financial intelligence solutions for the global financial industry, with a particular focus on preventing and investigating money laundering, terror financing and fraud. In addition to his work in the financial sector, he is an expert on economic terrorism and is regularly invited to speak at international conferences in London, Switzerland, and Israel.
David will lead CSCSS, in partnership with government and key industry sectors, in addressing the connections between cyber and broad strategic issues such as the changing relationship between the USA and the rest of the world, and the rapid growth of transnational terrorism and crime. In addition, he will take responsibility for CSCSS’ relations with the Israeli cybersecurity community.
CSCSS President and CEO Richard Zaluski stated, “Even more than technology solutions, public policy relating to cyber threats is constantly playing catch-up with the threat actors. Through David’s experience in this field, CSCSS will be uniquely positioned to lead in this very high profile area of cyberspace.”
CSCSS Senior Vice President for International Cyber Policy and International Law, Dr. Amit Maitra, said “David’s long experience in working with both government policymakers and business leaders will help in preparing flexible and realistic strategy for the rapidly-developing global landscape of cyber threats and threat actors. His experience in the highly regulated yet rapidly changing financial industry will also be invaluable in this field, which is still characterized by confusion.”
“I am honoured to join CSCSS’s leadership,” David said. “Unlike some other international cyber leadership organizations that are made up largely of former top government officials who have often dealt with cyber top-down, CSCSS is made up mainly of people, several of whom I already know, who have tremendous hands-on experience of cyber threats, especially in preventing and investigating cyber crime. It will be a privilege to leverage their insights into coherent strategies and policies, and enable national governments and international organizations to develop new laws, resource budgets and plans that keep
